MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) -- The last dog at a Superstorm Sandy pet shelter is now enjoying his new home on Long Island.

Karen and Marc Siegal of Melville were chosen from hundreds of applicants who wanted to adopt Bruno.

They'd recently lost two dogs due to illness and old age. They visited Bruno and instantly liked him.

Marc Siegal says Bruno now has the run of their house. He likes to play with tennis balls and has a fenced-in yard to romp in.

The Rottweiler's previous owner lost his home in Long Beach and was unable to care for him.

The emergency pet shelter closed earlier this month. Then Bruno resided temporarily at Northwind Kennels in Westchester County.

The Siegals hope to adopt a second dog so Bruno will have a friend.
