2 apps to make your baseball season more enjoyable

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

It's a sure sign of spring in America. Monday is opening day of the 2013 Major League Baseball season, and there are a few hi-tech ways to get a jump start before the first swing!

There are two apps that could make your baseball season more enjoyable. The first is MLB at the Ballpark and MLB at Bat.

Turner Field is ready for opening day, but long before the first fan steps into the stadium for the 2013 season, a lot of thought has gone into fans and their technology. Smartphones and tablets at the stadium are now part of the fan experience.

"Yeah, I think when you are at a baseball game, because there is no clock, and it's a bit more of leisurely atmosphere. You're there enjoying peanuts, hot dog, a Coca-Cola, it becomes an ability to socialize with the game," Atlanta Braves VP Derek Schiller.

The MLB at the Ballpark app is designed for you to use at the stadium, and the app works at all major league parks.

"So, if you are in some seats and you say I want to move way down close, I want to make that experience even better, you can upgrade your seats right there on your phone, from the at the ballpark app, and you can go down to your seats and the usher will look at your phone and you will be all set," said Schiller.

The app also shows concessions and bathrooms nearest your seats. If there is a great play, a high light will be pushed to the app for you to replay in your seat.

The Braves have upgraded the WiFi at Turner Field, and they are encouraging fans to use to it for faster speeds.

"We have WiFi accessibility throughout the stadium.  No matter what seat you are in, you will be able to use a WiFi enabled device," said Schiller.

MLB at Bat is the number one selling app in the iTunes store.  If you're a baseball fan, this app connects you to your team and game. You can listen to the game through the app, and you can follow along pitch by pitch.  Again, if there's a great play, a video of it will be pushed to your smartphone or tablet.

If you missed a game, you can re-watch it for free later. All the traditional items are there also: scores, stats, as well as highlights from other games.

MLB at Bat is $19.99. MLB at the Ballpark is free.
