PD: Shoplifting suspect bit employee who tried to stop her

MESA, Ariz. -

Mesa police say when a suspect tried leaving a store with a bundle of clothes, she bit an employee who tried to stop her.

Authorities say while the suspect ran from the store near Southern Avenue and Alma School Road, she had the clothes in her arms. 

A store employee was bit on the arm after attempting to grab Shannon Vigil.

Vigil then jumped into a truck and climbed over the driver and put her foot on the gas pedal, accelerating and almost hitting two people.

According to police, those two victims said they had to jump out of the way to avoid the truck.

Vigil faces numerous charges, including shoplifting, unlawful means of transportation and assault with a deadly weapon.

The value of the items Vigil attempted to steal were valued at $300.
