Brooklyn PTA hopes to get bathroom renovation funds

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

P.S. 58 in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is an elementary school with some bathroom problems. Parents say the problem is that the bathrooms haven't been renovated since the school was built in 1954. So parents are campaigning to get money from the city.

One parent made a video about the bathroom plight and posted it online. It has gone viral -- at least locally.

The PTA co-president says they are desperate for their students who are pre-K through fifth grade.

The school is competing with 23 other projects in City Council District 39 to get money from the city.

Councilman Brad Lander has about $1 million in his discretionary budget. He is allowing voters in his district to vote and decide which projects the money will fund.

P.S. 58 parents are hoping their video will persuade voters to vote for their bathroom renovation, which will cost about $110,000.

Voting will continue through Sunday. Two dozen projects are on the ballot. Of those, about five will get selected.

Some did share nice pictures, but others not so much. Some of the first pictures posted showed regular citizens standing with very friendly looking police officers.
