Scottsdale Police have arrested a transient man who broke into a home by entering a doggie door.

About 6 a.m. Thursday, the suspect entered the victim's home near Chaparral and 85th St in Scottsdale through the backyard doggie door.

The 49-year-old female victim, who was awake in her bedroom, saw the suspect walk by and texted her 47-year-old male roommate who was sleeping in another room.

The male woke up and confronted the suspect as he was leaving through the door to the backyard. The suspect jumped the fence and ran, and the roommate gave chase.

Police were called and officers found the suspect hiding in a bush at a nearby home. He was arrested after a brief struggle.

Police have identified the suspect as 25-year-old John Akins. Akins was booked into jail on burglary and resisting arrest charges.
