Opera competition, Vintage Heaven sale, exploring Greek culture top your weekend

Time Out Chicago's Marissa Conrad is here with your top weekend picks, including a competition for aspiring opera singers, a vintage sale and the chance to introduce the little ones to Greek culture.

Friday

Sorry to burst Beyonce's bubble, but not everyone dreamt of being a pop star. Some people fantasized about being the next Joyce DiDonato. If you fall into that category, head out to this competition. During each performance, baritone Sherrill Milnes provides contestants with vocal and breathing tips. The winner receives extended training with Milnes and soprano Maria Zouves. We know spring is on the brain—but it's your last weekend to hit the ice rink at the top of the Hancock building before it closes April 8. Head up to experience the world's highest skating rink! Nab all the antique accoutrements you could possibly desire at Vintage Heaven Big Sale in Wicker Park. Eight vintage vendors, including Treat Yo Self, Jenstyle Chic and Poly Go Lightly, sell jewelry, purses, belts, shoes and other items at the weekend pop-up show's 2013 debut. Navy Pier's series praising the city's diverse ethnic communities concludes with a nod to Greektown. Among the cultural institutions presenting are the National Hellenic Museum, the Orpheus Hellenic Folklore Society, Cretan Youth Dance of Chicago and Pontian Young Dancing Troupe. Plus, there's a wine tasting, an art exhibition and food vendors from Pegasus, Roditys, and Artopolis Bakery.
