NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Coney Island's New York Aquarium, which was devastated by Superstorm Sandy, will partially reopen Saturday, May 25, 2013, the Wildlife Conservation Society announced.

Glover's Reef; exhibits in Conservation Hall; outdoor habitats of Sea Cliffs, the walrus, sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters, and penguins live; and a remodeled Aquatheater will reopen.

"We are ready to welcome New York families and tourists back into the WCS New York Aquarium," said Cristián Samper, the president and CEO of the Wildlife Conservation Society. "We have worked nonstop to ensure that the marine life in the aquarium was safe and secure. We want to share this progress with New Yorkers and be a part of the Coney Island comeback following Hurricane Sandy."

When Superstorm Sandy slammed New York on October 29, 2012, the historic storm surge rushed passed the Coney Island boardwalk and flooded all buildings at the 14-acre aquarium.

The flooding significantly damaged the heating, air conditioning, electrical power and distribution equipment, and aquatic life support systems, the WCS said.

Most of the aquarium's creatures survived, but some fish and invertebrates housed in a few tanks died.

The society said it is developing a plan and budget to fully restore and reopen the aquarium. The price tag is likely to be in the tens of millions of dollars.

"A mixed bag": That's how the Straphangers Campaign characterizes New York City subways; some good parts and some bad. For example, the C train breaks down most often, not surprising since the line has 50-year-old cars. But C trains were also the cleanest in the transit system.Straphangers said the worst subway trains were the IRT's No. 2.
