TEMPE, Ariz. -

People from across the valley gathered to pay their respects to well-known valley businessman Eddie Basha on Saturday.

He passed away last week and Saturday morning a memorial was held at ASU Gammage.

Thousands showed up to pay their respects, including Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Governor Jan Brewer.

Those that worked in the food industry say his work wasn't just business, but it was about the heart he put into it.

"Eddie set the bar very high. With him leadership and management wasn't about systems or program, but it was a human activity with Eddie and everything was from the heart. What he did, it wasn't just from his heart, but it was how it affected the people that he was dealing with. Those people are few and far between," said Rex Collins, who worked with Basha.

Basha died at the age of 75.

He had been the lead man in for the Bashas' grocery store chain for more than 40 years.
