NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police have arrested a Brooklyn man in connection with a series of arsons targeting Jewish religious objects inside two apartment buildings in Williamsburg.

Authorities charged Ruben Ubiles, 34, with burglary, arson, and criminal mischief as hate crimes, and other counts.

Ubiles is accused of torching several mezuzahs inside 85 Taylor Street on Monday and one mezuzah inside 130 Clymer Street on Tuesday, police said.

A mezuzah is an object inscribed with Hebrew verses affixed outside a door.

The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force investigated the burnings. Detectives took Ubiles into custody on Wednesday and questioned him for several hours before they filed charges.

If you have any information about these incidents you can contact the Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477) or www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
