ATLANTA -

Officials in Rome will hold an opening day ceremony for a new Lowe's distribution center on Thursday.

According to Lowe's officials, the center is located at the intersection of Ga. 53 and Ga. 140, and  employs around 400 people. It is expected to employ 600 by the year 2016. They say the facility will serve nearly 100 stores in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

They say the center will handle more than 32,000 different items, ranging from paint to lawn mowers.

Construction on the $125 million facility began in September 2011 and was completed in April 2013, say Lowe's officials.
