DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

More than 300 urban planners, economic developers and others are meeting in the city as part of an ambitious project designed to improve parts of Detroit.

Those taking part in the Project for Public Spaces Leadership Council will share ideas on topics that include architecture, public markets and local economies, healthy communities and transportation and its impact on vibrant cities. Meetings continue Thursday and Friday.

The Knight and Kresge foundations and Rock Ventures are among the sponsors of the events which are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

Rock Ventures is the umbrella entity for online retail mortgage lender Quicken Loans and founder Dan Gilbert's family of companies.

Last month, Rock Ventures helped roll out a retail master plan for Detroit's Woodward Avenue corridor which includes temporary shops and restaurants. It is part of an initiative to encourage people to live, work and invest in Detroit.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
