A 120-pound mountain lion was spotted in the Glendale-La Crescenta neighborhood Thursday prompting a three-hour search involving police, fire officials and fish and game officers.

The large feline was eventually tranquilized and corralled underneath a backyard deck of a home near the corner of Thelma Street and New York Avenue.

A neighborhood resident told Fox 11 he spotted the mountain lion close to nearby Clark Magnet High School and reported it authorities at around 7, Thursday morning.

The search began in earnest just after noon as the big cat was seen jumping over fences and going from yard to yard.

The mountain lion was eventually tranquilized by fish and game officials, put into the back of a pickup truck and reportedly taken and released into the Angeles National Forest.

(FOX 11/ CNS) A mountain lion was spotted, tracked and tranquilized Thursday afternoon in the backyard of a home in the foothills of Glendale.

The big cat was first seen about 1:45 p.m. and was tranquilized about 3:30 p.m. by Fish and Game agents, agency officials said.

It had moved freely in an area north of Foothill Boulevard and east of New York Avenue, entering various yards and easily scaling a number of roofs and fences, according to a broadcast report.

A resident aid he and his dog came face to face with the creature in the backyard of his property, and it fled.

Fish and Game agents said they believed the mountain lion -- described as a male weighing about 120 pounds -- came down out of a wash  looking for water because the hills are dry.

He has been hit with two tranquilizer darts and likely will receive a third to ensure that he is immobilized before removing him from the scene and bringing him back to his natural habitat, according to ABC7. Local residents have been advised to remain in their homes until the animal is taken away.
