Let It Rip: Part-time Detroit City Council?

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

A consulting firm says Detroit could save $7 million a year if it made City Council part-time.

"This is a full-time job," Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh said earlier this week.

"I don't see it as a part-time council, but I certainly see ways that we could reduce redundancy, reduce the cost," Council President Pro Tem Gary Brown also remarked.

However, whether council stays full-time or becomes part-time, changes are in the future.  Meanwhile, council members are working on an alternative plan.

Joining Charlie Langton and Taryn Asher on the panel to discuss:

Brown, who has 30 years of service to Detroit both in law enforcement and politics.

And Saunteel Jenkins, a fellow City Council member, who is a lifelong Detroiters and has also dedicated her life to the betterment of the city.
