Dog Finds Human Skull, Brings To Owner

Quartz Hill, CA -

(FOX 11) A human skull was found Sunday and a big search was planned for today is to determined the circumstances under which it ended up in a field behind homes.

It was just about 8 am that we saw the first black and white units arrive for that search in this little corner of the Antelope Valley known as Quartz Hill. It's snuggled between Palmdale and Lancaster. And, over the next couple of hours Sheriffs Deputies, Coroner Investigators and Sheriff's Volunteers all converged on this neighborhood -- 6200 block of West Avenue N -- and joined them.

The find was made around 4 pm Sunday. To locals Ross Smith and his wife Beverly, the finding of a human skull not far from the home they live in wasn't some big shocker. The desert, he suggests, is a place where people can dump and bury anything from the city down below.

In fact, three different people who live in the area told us the same thing, but nothing like this has been found in this area. So, for neighbor David Freiman, it was a bit of "an eyeopener." For Beverly Smith a bit unnerving because her grandkids play in that area where the skull came from.

Before investigators can figure out "who dunnit" they have to determine "who is it?" It may take a coroner's investigation to determine the sex and age of the skull. And, of course, more clues. And, that's what they are looking for in the Quartz Hill field.
