APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. -

Authorities say a man wanted for attempted murder and aggravated assault on an officer has been shot and killed by police in Apache Junction.

Local and federal authorities were moving in Saturday morning to arrest the man when the shooting happened.

A team of Mesa police officers and agents with the U.S. Marshals Service learned that the man would be in the area near Broadway Avenue and Meridian Road. They spotted him driving a pickup truck and tried to stop him.

"At that point, the suspect appeared to be going for a weapon.  Based on his very violent history at that point, the officers did fire, striking the suspect and he was pronounced dead here at the scene," said Detective Steve Berry of the Mesa Police Department.

Berry says it's not known if the fatal shots were fired by Mesa police or U.S. Marshals agents.

The suspect's name is Travis Trisoliere.

Investigators are now waiting on a warrant to search the vehicle.
