MCSO detention officer arrested in stabbing of father

AVONDALE, Ariz. -

A Maricopa County Sheriff's detention officer is in custody for allegedly stabbing his father.

Avondale police say 27-year-old CJ Joe is suspected of wounding his dad with a Swiss Army knife at his father's home Sunday morning.

He's being held on suspicion of one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted second-degree murder.

According to court documents, CJ Joe told police he blacked out and doesn't remember stabbing his father over and over again.

Authorities say his father, 55-year-old Curtis Joe, remained in critical condition Monday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix.

They had been drinking all night and were reportedly arguing about keeping the house clean.

Sheriff's officials say Joe works at the Durango Jail, has been a detention officer since 2005 and has no discipline history or employment issues.

Officials say Joe currently is on leave without pay.
