A Transportation Security Administration inspector is being credited with helping save the life of a passenger at Newark Liberty International Airport Tuesday night.

Security Inspector Robert Kennish of Metuchen, N.J., performed CPR on an elderly woman after she collapsed Tuesday night on a passenger ramp and stopped breathing, the TSA said.

Flight attendants from the Virgin America aircraft and two passengers -- an ophthalmologist and a nurse -- also came to the woman's aid.

The doctor administered an automatic defibrillator that an attendant retrieved from the jet, and Kennish resumed CPR. The woman was also given oxygen and was breathing when paramedics arrived.

"Within seconds, I was able to feel a distal post in her left arm," Kennish said. "The nurse was able to get a pulse. A flight attendant also provided us with oxygen from the aircraft. Once the oxygen was running, I placed the mask onto the woman to assist with her breathing."

Kennish, a former federal air marshal, is a trained emergency medical technician, the TSA. He has performed CPR before, but never had the positive results as he did Tuesday, the TSA said.

"TSI Kennish demonstrated amazing personal courage and skill in emergency response," said Don Drummer, TSA's Federal Security Director for the airport. "In all likelihood, Rob's decisive actions saved this passenger's life."

Kennish has worked at the TSA since 2002.

For decades, making some quick cash was the main drive behind so many who took the ride down the parkway to Atlantic City. But with so much to choose from nowadays, it looks like Atlantic City is in a lot of trouble.
