PHOENIX -

Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies say they've arrested three Mexican Nationals and a U.S. citizen on human smuggling charges.

Tuesday night, Border Patrol agents conducted a traffic stop on a 2003 Ford Explorer for speeding, on the southern edge of Maricopa County.

The MCSO Human Smuggling Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. They learned three men paid between $800 and $3,000 to be illegally smuggled into the U.S.

The final destination for the group was Phoenix. They admitted to crossing the border near Sonora and claimed they were from Mexico.

The driver admitted to transporting the suspects for profit on two separate occasions.

All four were arrested and booked into the 4th Ave Jail.
