Traffic investigators are trying to determine if the rainy weather played a roll in a series of accidents on Sunday afternoon that claimed the life of one passenger and shut down traffic on Interstate 20 well into the evening.
The Georgia State Patrol tells FOX 5 News that it happened near the Douglas-Carroll county line. The first crash happened as a vehicle spun out and hit a guardrail. A passing motorist stopped to help, but was hit by another vehicle who lost control trying to avoid the crash.
Another accident, this one involving a Ford Expedition, is also being attributed to a driver attempting to avoid the first accident. This time the SUV left the SUV left the road and hit the cable barrier causing it to flip several times.
A passenger in the Expedition died at the scene. The driver and a second passenger were rushed to nearby hospitals.
The names of those involved in the accident have yet been released.
