NORCROSS, Ga. -

A Norcross boy scout got the chance to save a life during a camping trip to the Canadian border last summer. Now, Nathan Henneburg-Verity has a new merit badge and a best friend for life!

Boy Scout Troop 26 was on a 10 day high adventure camping trip last summer, and Verity and John Allen had no idea just how extreme their journey was about to get as they canoed through raging waters.

Allen's canoe tipped over and the raging water pulled him underwater and towards a waterfall. That's when Verity put his scouting skills in action.

"I jumped in the water thinking that if John's going to go over the waterfall if I can't get him out I'm going with him," Verity said.

He pulled Allen from the rapids within feet from plunging over the waterfall. Allen says he is sure Verity saved his life.

"I don't know if I'm a hero. I was just trying to save my friend. That's the biggest thing," said verity.

The Boy Scouts of America awarded Verity with the Honor Medal for his quick-thinking in a tough situation.
