PHOENIX (AP) - Federal prosecutors say five men who were in the United States illegally have been sentenced for their roles in holding 21 people hostage.

3 of the men received the maximum 10-year prison sentence. Authorities say 24-year-old Juan Jose Parra-Labrador, 25-year-old Sergio Sarabia-Sarabia and 25-year-old Uriel Parra-Lerma had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to harbor others who were in the country illegally.

Another defendant, 43-year-old Felipe Sarabia-Labrador, was given a sentence of 9 years and one month in prison.

Prosecutors say one victim had been hanged by his wrists and ankles in a stash house closet while others were beaten, bound with cable cords and threatened with knives.

Another man, 30-year-old Aaron Aparicio-Ramirez - was sentenced to 18 months in prison for transporting the group to and from the stash house.
