When neighbors in a tight-knit community near Rome discovered a woman trying to build a home with her own bare hands, they came together to help.Connie Couey Reeves, 58, has spent the last two years living out of her car on her land, which is located in Silver Creek. She began work to build her home with rocks all by herself. But Reeves is no longer alone. Several people have volunteered to help her after seeing a post on Facebook put up by Jennifer Grissom. Grissom found out about Reeves' work when her husband was doing storm clean-up and Connie asked him for a discarded utility pole. He delivered it, and saw her work."And when they got here, this is what it was. And they came back and told me and I didn't believe them," Grissom said. Jennifer went out to see for herself and the rest is history. Her Facebook post has brought help for Connie, with hope that her dream of a home will become reality."There's a lot of people - -hundreds of people -- that want to help. Plumbers, electricians. Carpenters," said Grissom.Reeves said she's grateful for the help. "After two years, just doing one rock at a time, and then having so many people find out about it all at once, it's very humbling," Reeves said.
Volunteers say their next big project for the house is getting running water. They're also looking for someone to dig a well in order to get that water.
