Residents outraged over 'peeping Tom' exhibit

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A new photo exhibit at an art gallery in Chelsea is drawing the ire of residents who are the artist's subjects, unknowingly.

The artist, Arne Svenson, is taking the photos through their TriBeCa building windows. In some photos, the residents are bending over, sleeping and cleaning.

Photos of 'The Neighbors' are being sold for more than $7,500 at the Julie Saul Gallery.

"This is a beautiful exhibition by a wonderful artist," said Saul.

One resident told the New York Post that he is "waiting there for hours with his camera, who knows what kind of footage he has."

"For my subjects, there is no question of privacy," Svenson said in a statement accompanying the exhibit.

"They are performing behind a transparent scrim on a stage of their own creation with the curtain raised high. The neighbors don't know they are being photographed; I carefully shoot from the shadows of my home into theirs.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
