Longtime duo Drew Lane and Mike Clark signed off the air Friday after 22 years together on Detroit radio.

"It's sad but it's exciting at the same time," said Clark Friday morning. "There's a lot of energy in the studio."

Management at Greater Media Detroit, which operates WRIF-FM (101.1) along with WCSX-FM (94.7) and WMGC-FM (105.1), decided earlier this month not to renew the duo's contract, marking the end of the popular "Drew and Mike" show.

Lane and Clark began at WRIF-FM since 1994. Lane left the show in 2007 and returned in 2009. Clark was off the air for several weeks at the beginning of this year. The show was regularly the top rated show in the competitive morning drive time slot.

Management has not confirmed Drew and Mike's replacement, however, it has been rumored that the time slot will be turned over to Dave Hunter and Charles Urquhart, the former hosts of the "Dave and Chuck 'the Freak' " morning show on CIMX-FM (88.7).

Clark says the crew plans to explore the possibility of returning to the air on another station. Lane agreed. "We'll be on the air. I think. I hope."

In the meantime, Lane adds, "Don't cheat on us with other morning shows!"
