Weekend Roundup: Strawberry Festival, LA Salsa Congress & Mannish Boys Cajun & Blues Festival

Posted: Updated:

FOX 11's food and fun expert Mar Yvette searches the Los Angeles area for some of the best places to eat, drink, shop and have a great time. Featured guests then swarm our FOX Television Center parking lot every Thursday morning between 9am and 10am on Good Day LA, creating a big party as one jam-packed segment known as the Weekend Roundup!

Here's more information about the guests we featured:

Strawberry Festival

Strawberries, celebrities and lots of family fun! The 55th Annual Strawberry Festival is back this Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-27) with more than 300,000 people expected to attend, 200 food and sales booths, 35 carnival rides, games, contests, music and live entertainment. Don't miss the free giant strawberry cake-cutting ceremony on Friday night and the Saturday morning parade lined with cool classic cars, floats and celebrities including characters from "Despicable Me," Karan Brar from "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and Disney's hit show "Jessie," and FOX 11's own Christine Devine who is this year's grand marshal! The festivities raise money for local charities and schools and take place on the Village Green between Main Street and Euclid Avenue in
Downtown Garden Grove.

LA Salsa Congress

So you think you can dance? Even if you can't, you certainly will be dazzled by the fast, fierce and fabulous footwork of dancers from around the world at the 15th Annual International LA Salsa Congress. Going on May 22-26 at the Westin Bonaventure in Downtown LA, this yearly celebration and competition is your passport to experience an exciting week of music, dancing, workshops and incredible talent from more than 40 countries including global salsa sensations Jefferson & Adrianita of Columbia.

Mannish Boys at Cajun & Blues Festival

Everybody's got the blues. And it's a dang good thing, too! This weekend's Cajun & Blues Festival in Simi Valley is your chance to catch live performances from artists like
Mighty Mojo Prophets and the Mannish Boys, winners of the 2013 Blues Music Awards for "Best Traditional Blues Album." The two-day celebration takes place May 25-26 with three stages of music, food booths serving up everything from Cajun-Creole delicacies to BBQ and beyond, plus Mardi Gras-style parades, rows of craft vendors and kid-friendly activities.
