NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Heavy downpours sparked flash flooding across the tristate area on Thursday. The National Weather Service issued numerous weather alerts for many counties in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

  • Water was several inches deep in parts of Hoboken, N.J.
  • The Sawmill Parkway in New York was shut down during rush hour because the water made the roadway impassable.
  • Nyack, N.Y., had major flooding in the downtown area.

A cold front approaching from the west was expected to continue to trigger showers Thursday night into Friday. The cold front will push to the east on Friday and then stall as a storm system forms on the front.
