19 L.I. beaches closed during the holiday weekend

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Nassau County health officials announced that due to heavy rainfall, 19 beaches have been closed to bathing as a precautionary measure beginning Saturday, May 25.  

Officials say storm water runoff can have a negative impact by elevating bacterial levels and affecting bathing water quality. 

The 14 Nassau County North Shore Beaches closed are: 

Centre Island Sound

Creek Club

Lattingtown Beach

Laurel Hollow Beach

Morgan Sound

North Hempstead Beach Park

Piping Rock Beach Club

Prybil Beach

Ransom Beach

Roosevelt Beach

Sea Cliff Village Beach

Soundside Beach

Stehli Beach

Tappen Beach 

 

The 5 Nassau County South Shore Beaches closed are: 

Biltmore Beach Club

Hewlett Point Beach

Island Park Beach

Merrick Estates Civic Association

Philip Healey Beach

Anyone with questions about the closings can contact a Health Department representative, weekdays, 9:00 A.M. - 4:45 P.M. at 516-227-9717.
