Previewing Cherryfest in Traverse City (with video)

Posted: Updated:

The 87th annual National Cherry Festival is kicking off on June 29th, and here with a preview of the event is executive director, Trevor Tkach.

This year there are over 150 exciting events at the festival, the majority of which are free to the public. These events include concerts, night time air shows, and fireworks shows.

With 75 percent of the nation's tart cherries coming from Traverse City there are endless possibilities of what can be made. Cherry pie is the headliner but new products like cherry butter and jalapeno cherry salsa will also be available at the festival's two signature food events.

The week long festival wraps up with the 41st running of the Meijer Festival of Races on July 6th followed by the DTE Energy Cherry Royale Parade. Finally, the night is capped off with a fireworks show over West Grand Traverse Bay.
