Teens Promote Driving Safety 'In One Instant'

Posted: Updated:
Culver City, CA -

Tylor Cook is a senior. She's 18 years old. She admits she's texted while driving and knows it's wrong.

The Culver City HS student is one who says she's changing her ways. Cook and about 10 others were part of a school program today aimed at scaring teens into realizing they can get killed "in one instant" with distracted driving. The program called "In One Instant" involves watching a movie and then a live drama. Cook and others reading letters they wrote to loved ones as drivers killed because of drinking or texting while driving.

Why was the program held this week? Because this weekend is the Prom! One of many special events from Memorial Day to Labor Day - the period some call "The 100 Deadliest Days for Teens" because its summer, it's party time and a time in which distraction behind the wheel can and oftentimes kills.

About 1,200 Culver High students will experience the award-winning, emotionally charged 'In One Instant' anti-distracted and impaired driving program, where teen peer and parents will urge them to outsmart the "100 Deadliest Days for Teen Drivers" this summer, and save lives.

In One Instant is showing high school students they have the power to change the formula that creates the "100 Deadliest Days for Teen Drivers". These are the days between Memorial Day and Labor Day, infused with proms, graduation parties, long weekends and July 4th celebrations, all of which spur distracted and impaired driving, fueling the number one killer of teenagers today: car crashes. In One Instant empowers students to save lives.

The award-winning In One Instant school safe driving program is produced by Gail Schenbaum Lawton, Cheryl Wada and Debbie Barnett. They are the co-founders of Streetwise Media, a non-profit organization operating in association with the 501(c) (3) Community Partners. State Farm and Fineshriber Family Foundation are the major sponsors of In One Instant, with additional support and services provided by Wells Fargo, Uber, AT&T, Dignity Gates Kingsley & Gates Moeller Murphy Funeral Directors, Tip Top Tow Service, South Bay Center for Counseling, Ojai Foundation, and NK Production.
