Police step up patrols in east Atlanta after recent crimes

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Atlanta police have added extra patrols in response to a recent uptick of crime in east Atlanta. Two shootings and other gun crimes have put residents in the area on high alert.

Residents said they welcomed the increased police presence, which extends from Grant Park to East Atlanta Village.

Patrick Cotrona, 33, was shot and killed as he walked home early Sunday morning.

On Tuesday, police canvassed Grant Park for clues in the May 17 robbery and shooting of a 22-year-old man walking home from a Braves game.

Authorities are working to determine if there is a connection between any of the crimes.

The East Atlanta Community Association is planning to form and pay for a safety patrol made up of off-duty police officers to patrol the area beginning this weekend.
