A 19-year-old middle eastern man was shot and killed in his front
yard in Lakewood Thursday afternoon, the LA County Sheriff's Department says he
was shot at point blank range. It
happened on Arbor Rd. near Downey.
Detectives said witnesses reported two Hispanic men walked up to the suspect and at least one shot the victim. Investigators didn't say how many times the victim was shot or where he was hit, but the victim died at the scene. As of 8pm Thursday no weapons had been found.
Homicide detectives were searching several blocks around the scene of the shooting and interviewing neighbors in the hours following the homicide.
"The victim was shot by what we believe were two male Hispanic suspects, who ran westbound on Arbor and entered a white compact vehicle. We're looking for any help that the residents may have anybody that may have seen the incident at the time," said Lt. Dave Coleman, LA County Sheriff's Department.
Lt. Coleman also said the car was possibly a white four-door Camry, 1980's model. Investigators didn't have any other description of the car or suspects. They hope witnesses, such as neighbors, will come forward.
Some of the victim's family members may have been home when the shooting happened, but were not able to provide investigators with any more information.
The Sheriff's Department doesn't know the motive for the shooting, but they do not believe anyone else in the neighborhood is in danger.
