Ashanti: My Music Speaks To The Heart

Posted: Updated:

A big week for Ashanti.  Her TV show, "Army Wives" airs its 7th season finale on Sunday, and she's released a new single called "Never Should Have" from her album, "Braveheart."

You'll hear the song on that episode of "Army Wives" and this morning on Good Day L.A. when Ashanti joins Tony Potts (who's filling in for Steve Edwards) and Maria Sansone.

Fun facts about Ashanti:

  • Most famous for her eponymous debut album, which featured the hit song "Foolish", and sold over 503,000 copies in its first week of release throughout the U.S. in April 2002
  • She became the first female performer to simultaneously hold the top two places on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with "Foolish", and "What's Luv?" (with Fat Joe)
  • Ashanti cites Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Prince, Madonna, Tupac Shakur, Mary J. Blige, Ella Fitzgerald, Smokey Robinson, Donna Summer, and Blue Magic as her musical influences

Born and raised in Liverpool, signed by an inexperienced agent named Brian Epstein, hustled into the studio with a genius producer named George Martin...and out of that session came a hit song called "Do You Want To Know A Secret." Now here's the twist…we're not talking about The Beatles.
