Crews rescue woman from home after waters rise

Posted: Updated:

Crews rescued an Atlanta woman after rising water left her stranded in her home.

Gladys White lives on Macon Drive next to the South River in southwest Atlanta. The river rapidly rose around 9 p.m., trapping the 61-year-old woman, who is in a wheelchair.

White called for help. The Atlanta Fire Department showed up with the Swift Water Rescue Team and got her out.

Richard White said that his mom is shaken up, but OK. He says that she's lived in this home for about a year, and this isn't the first time that it has flooded. He said that she'll stay with him for the foreseeable future.
