New Yorkers rated best tippers

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

When it comes to showing their appreciation for service at eateries, New Yorkers top the list of best tippers, leaving more than 20 percent.

Following a close second are New Jerseyans while people from Arkansas are the worst, tipping only about 10 percent on average, according to a new survey by CouponCodes4U.com

"Tipping should be for excellent service, not mandatory and with the majority of consumers claiming that they would prefer a new way of paying for their eating out experiences, perhaps it is time to have a frank discussion about America's tipping culture," Mark Pearson, chairman of CouponCodes4u.com, said in a press release.

If an iced coffee from Dunkin' Donuts is part of your afternoon routine, expect a nudge to buy a cookie or doughnut you didn't plan on. Dunkin' Brands CEO Nigel Travis said in a phone interview Thursday that the company is pushing to get its cashiers to "upsell" to afternoon customers. It's part of an effort to increase sales after stores have emptied out after the morning rush.
