Protesters target Senator Flake over Gang of 8 participation

Posted: Updated:

A conservative group says it's going to go after Senator Jeff Flake for his support of immigration reform and his efforts in the Gang of 8.

Members of "Riders USA" rallied at 40th Street and I-10 Tuesday. That’s where they say they're going to put up the first billboard targeting Flake.

It says: "The Flake-Obama amnesty adds 33 million foreign workers. Tell Senator Flake Americans need those jobs!"

Recalled Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce was among those speaking out against the immigration bill.

“Poll after poll Americans want enforcement not amnesty. I mean this is this is outrageous. I mean this is special interests, everything. You’ve got two groups that have joined hands on this thing that you’d never think would be connected. you’ve got the open border folks who want cheap votes and then you’ve got the U.S. Chamber Of Commerce and others whose special interests on cheap labor have joined hands on the backside of this, while Americans 70 to 80 percent consistently want our border secured, our laws enforced. what does it take? Arizona’s proven it works,” said Pearce.

In a statement to FOX 10 News, Senator Flake's office said: "The immigration bill can -- and will be -- improved on the senate floor. But it is certainly better than the de facto amnesty we live under now. Simply opposing the senate bill -- without offering a reasonable alternative -- does nothing to improve the situation."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says the goal should be passing a bill by the 4th of July. President Obama wants something on his desk by the fall.
