32 year old Malia Brooks has been a sixth grade teacher here since 2004.

Now she is being charged with five sexual counts, including one of lewd acts upon a child, another one of oral copulation of a person under fourteen, and three other counts of genital penetration by foreign object, again with a person under fourteen.

Her attorney reportedly saying -she is suffering from a mental illness and is receiving treatment.

But she did plead not guilty today in court...

she was put on administrative leave at the end of February, but did not resign until June 5th,  a week before her coordinated arrest at the Simi Valley Police Station.

Investigators believe there is just one victim, involved in the "relationship " ( their words ) between January and February of this year.
