No record-tying high temperature for Phoenix area

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - It was hot again in the Phoenix metropolitan area, but it wasn't record-tying heat.

The National Weather Service projected a high temperature of 112 degrees for Wednesday in the Phoenix metro area. That would tie the record temperature set for that date in 1918 and again in 1974.

But it only got up to 110 degrees and fell short of tying the mark.

An excessive heat watch was still in effect, however.

It was issued by the Weather Service for Maricopa County and northern Pinal County because of afternoon highs ranging from 108 to 112 degrees.

Authorities say excessive heat exposure can lead to critical medical conditions such as a stroke, heart attack and even death.
