Police look for victim after video surfaces of knockout

Posted: Updated:

Police are trying to find a man who was knocked out outside of a Phoenix grocery store. Video posted online shows him getting punched and losing consciousness. The guys involved took the video then ran away.

That video was posted online for thousands to see, and now police are involved. They want to find the victim in this video, the guy who got punched.

Take a good look -- they're hoping someone will recognize him.

The Facebook video shows a possible assault. Police believe the man who got knocked out is a victim and may have hit his head so hard he doesn't remember what happened, so he never reported it.

The video starts with the man sitting outside of a bench near Fry's on 19th Avenue and Glendale. At least two guys walk up to him. Another is shooting video of what's about to happen. As the guy gets up... he's punched so hard he loses consciousness. The guys run away laughing

“Anyone who sees this is disgusted at what they’re seeing,” says Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.

The Facebook video was sent To Phoenix Police. A concerned citizen asked them to look into this. Police say the first step is finding the victim to see if he wants to press charges.

“We would love to know who these individuals are who this victim is and we would certainly love to investigate this,” said Martos.

Police say if they can't find the victim, they can't investigate.

Concerned citizens we talked to are worried that if police don't find the victim or the other guys involved, it could happen again.
