CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Three days of "exploring" a campaign for governor of Illinois were apparently all William Daley needed.

"I'm running for governor because I really think the state needs new leadership," Daley told FOX 32 Sunday on Friday.

Asked about the word "exploratory" in the name of his committee, Daley added, "No, I'm running."

The former White House Chief of Staff and brother to former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley released a campaign video Tuesday morning. Daley's preparing to hire veteran campaign professionals, including fundraisers and experts in political advertising.

While recording FOX 32 Sunday, Daley slammed Gov. Pat Quinn's handling of Illinois's unfunded public employee pension liabilities. He said the governor should stop using the line he repeated Friday that "I will sign any reform that reaches my desk."

Daley said Quinn should declare that he'll sign into law only the pension reform proposal favored by House Speaker Michael Madigan. Analysts said Madigan's plan would save taxpayers about three times more than a competing proposal supported by State Senate President John Cullerton. Cullerton said the State Supreme Court would uphold his plan, but would declare Madigan's unconstitutional.

After meeting Friday with leaders of the General Assembly, Gov. Quinn called on them to appoint a House-Senate conference committee to find a solution to Illinois' $97 billion pension crisis.

Quinn said the conferees could then work to find a deal acceptable to both chambers.
