Woman says ParkATLANTA fines her for ticket already paid

A local woman says a $35 parking ticket has turned into a $95 headache. ParkATLANTA say the woman didn't pay the ticket on time, but she said she has proof that she did.

Amanda Hammons admits that she made a mistake and didn't see a parking sign in Buckhead. She thought it would be easy to resolve.

"Paid the ticket and, then about a month later learned that they cashed my check, but it wasn't quite enough," she said.

Hammons says she got a delinquent payment notice and then another, despite paying the ticket.

The $35 fine increased to $95, even though her bank account shows ParkATLANTA cashed her check.

"Beyond frustrating. I work hard for my money I don't want to just give it away in fees," Hammons said.

Hammons says she's been trying to fix the problem, but after repeated calls to ParkATLANTA, she still hasn't gotten anywhere.

"You press 1, then you press 2, then you press 6, then you press 0, then you wait for a really, really long time. Then they say, 'OK, no one  can get to your call, please leave a message.' Leave a message then you call again the next day," said Hammons.

A spokesperson for the Department of Public Works, the city agency that oversees ParkATLANTA, told FOX 5, "Customers are always welcome to contact the public works office of transportation if they are unable to contact ParkATLANTA..Please ask her to request to speak to the parking program division."
