Daredevil Nik Wallenda Traverses The Grand Canyon On a Wire!

Posted: Updated:

Nik Wallenda defied gravity, once again, walking on a tightrope wire 1,500 hundred feet up, near the Grand Canyon.

It took him about 22 minutes to travel the quarter mile on a two-inch-thick steel cable!  He had to pause twice, when the winds whipped up and caused the wire to sway.

Wallenda did the entire walk on live television WITHOUT a harness.

His great-grandfather and several other family members have lost their lives while performing wire walking stunts in the past.

Following the canyon walk, Nik proceeded to kiss the ground, hug his family and tell reporters all about his future plans.

Nik told the press that would like to head to the concrete jungle of Manhattan and walk on a tightrope between two NYC landmarks: the Empire State Building and The Chrysler Building.

As of Monday monring, however, Nik may have to focus on another city.

WNYW spoke to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly who, in a nutshell, says a Nik Wallenda wire walk is "not going to happen here."
