PONTIAC, Mich. (WJBK) -

For the first time, the Botsford emergency room doctor who treated Rose and Sal Cipriano spoke out on Monday during the trial of Mitchell Young.

Dr. Eric McDowell was one of the first to see the mother and son after they were nearly beaten to death with a baseball bat allegedly at the hands of Young and Tucker Cipriano.

Dr. McDowell revealed that Sal Cipriano was so badly injured, Gift of Life was put on standby to receive his organs.

"On a normal scale, it would be 15 for everyone that's awake, alert and talking. A person that comes in deceased has a score of three. We gave him a score of four," the doctor testified.

Rose Cipriano was also barely responsive after the attack. Doctors noted she had what is called a boxer's fracture on her right hand, an injury consistent with a defensive wound.

The prosecution also showed pictures from inside the Cipriano home, including one showing a bloody comforter in Tanner Cipriano's bedroom. Investigators found blood on doors, walls and the floor inside the Cipriano home. There was also a photo of the bats allegedly used covered in blood.

Robert Cipriano was killed in the attack last April. Rose and Sal tried to defend themselves, but could not. Eight-year-old Isabella and Sal's twin brother, Tanner, hid inside closets.
