DCFS Hearings and What do They Do?

Posted: Updated:

"My grandchild would be alive if they'd done their job....", that in Lancaster, from the grandfather of an eight-year-old boy beaten and tortured to death allegedly by his mom and boyfriend, who had custody of the child despite six abuse complaints against her.

"We've been hearing about DCFS abuses every week, and you've done nothing", that from parents at a hearing of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors which has decided to form a blue ribbon panel to investigate problems at the Department of Children and Family Services, in the wake of criticism over the oversight of children in their care.

One of the supervisors asked "Do we really need another study?", explaining that as recently as 2008, another study was commissioned. This reporter has covered some of the past requests for studies. This time around, they have until the end of the year for recommendations.
