The highest court in the nation made its decision, same-sex marriage will soon resume in California.
While some celebrated the ruling, religious groups like the Calvary Chapel or North Long Beach received the news with a heavy heart.
"We anticipated the rule the way it ruled but still we were disappointed we are strong advocates of man woman marriage and were all very involved in prop 8," said Pastor John Atkinson, of Calvary Chapel.
Randy Thomasson of SaveCalfornia.com one of the strongest supporters of Proposition 8 also spoke out after the ruling.
"Because the high court didn't care about protecting natural marriage or even the initiative process, they have allowed unnatural, homosexual 'marriages' to resume in California as role models for children," said Thomasson.
While Pastor John says he doesn't hold animosity toward supporters of gay marriage. But he does fear this decision will have big consequences for religious groups. "If we continue in this direction then the big threat becomes our freedom of religion. And there could come a point and time where as a pastor I'm no longer allowed to teach that marriage defined by the word of god is the right pattern," he said.
Pastor John also added he would continue to teach that marriage should be between a man and a woman.
