Signs...Of The Times, The Gay Marriage Debate

Posted: Updated:

A pair of major victories for the gay rights movement yesterday as the Supreme Court weighed in on two cases.

Prop 8 here in California which banned gay couples from marrying and DOMA which prevented same-sex couples whose marriages were recognized by their home state from receiving the hundreds of benefits available to other married couples under federal law.

Today on "The List" we're talking about signs. Sometime's a few simple strong words can say more than a long drawn out speech. And yesterday as supporters waited for the Supreme Court to hand down it's decisions on Prop 8 here in California and DOMA we saw a lot of colorful signs.

Our friends over at "The Daily Beast" compiled "The 41 best signs outside the supreme court on the day DOMA was struck down", we decided to whittle it down to our top five for you.

  1. A closet door painted with the words: This used to oppress me. Repeal DOMA now. NO more shut doors.
  2. A sign with colorful rainbow words that reads: If Gay Marriage ruins your marriage you have more serious problems.
  3. Another sign reads: Stop DOMAnating my relationship
  4. Or how about this one: If I can't marry my boyfriend then I'll marry your daughter!
  5. And finally: I deserve to divorce too!

Other signs we liked: Two moms make a right. Keep calm and marry on. No more skim milk marriage. Inequality...Ain't nobody got time for that. Kids for love.
