There's nothing worse than trying to dodge and weave through the rain drops on a rainy day in New York City. But a new umbrella sharing pilot may make getting stuck in the rain a little easier. Who really wants to lug an umbrella around all day? So here's a solution: umbrella sharing.

A lunar eclipse known as a red moon or "blood moon" was visible in the Tristate area on Tuesday.  It started early in the morning and was the first of four such lunar eclipses over the next year and a half. The moon turns red during this type of eclipse because the sunlight is refracted, similar to the way it is bent during a sunset.

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The National Weather Service earlier Sunday extended a heat advisory through Sunday night for New York City and much of New Jersey because of the combination of high temperatures and humidity.

An excessive heat warning is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like 105 degrees or greater.

Fourth of July weekend is usually a weekend to hit the beach or the pool, but with the extreme heat warning issued for much of the area – many people didn't even want to venture outside.

Some New Yorkers on the Upper East Side having been coping with the excessive heat all day now and it seems everyone in the city is just trying to stay cool.

Sunday was another hot one here in New York City and while some laid out in Central Park, others hid in the shade here Brooklyn's Prospect Park.

"It's crazy weather, it's too hot," said one park goer.

Many New Yorkers also headed to the water. At McCarren Pool in Brooklyn, the lines were long as folks desperately tried to get some relief.

Real feel temps hovered today around 105 degrees and doctors say heat stroke can set in two to three hours.

"If you see someone acting funny who you think is drunk in this type of weather, most likely they're not drunk and it's most likely this is an early heat stroke."

Emergency room doctor Steve Garner tells us that when it gets this hot, he often sees five times as many more patients come in with heat related illnesses.

"You have to drink two bottles of water, which is a lot right? You don't wait until you get thirsty that's another trait. Once you're thirsty -- you're already behind and you are subjecting your lungs and heart to serious consequences," said Dr. Garner.

No matter how much, outdoor water vendor Giovanni Gonzalez, says he drank it just never felt like enough.

"I'm drinking a lot of water, eat some ice."

There were also a lot of kids cooling off at city parks as it was definitely the place to be if this heat wave continues.

Con Edison is reporting several hundred power outages in New York City, mainly in Brooklyn and Queens. There's also been a lot of power outages in Yonkers were about 3,500 customers were without power mostly in the section from McLean Avenue and Bronx River Road all the way to the Cross County -- but their power expected to be restored overnight.

The NYC Office of Emergency Management has air-conditioned cooling centers at senior and community facilities throughout the five boroughs. New Yorkers can call 311 or log on to www.NYC.gov/oem to find the nearest cooling center. Call your local cooling center to confirm hours of operations.

Forecasters say temperatures Sunday evening will drop to the upper 70s with a chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight.

Slight relief is expected for Monday with temperatures in the high 80s.
