Woman killed, 2 kids injured in I-85 rollover crash

Posted: Updated:

Authorities say a woman was killed and two children injured in a crash in Gwinnett County on Monday.

The accident happened on I-85 near the Pleasant Hill Road bridge in Gwinnett County just before 1:20 p.m. Police said a tractor-trailer clipped an SUV, causing the SUV to hit a truck. The SUV then went up an embankment, flipped several times, went over a guardrail and landed on an on-ramp at Steve Reynolds Boulevard.

The SUV had four occupants in it. A woman -- 34-year-old Rabia Adnan, of Duluth -- was ejected from the passenger seat and died from injuries suffered in the accident, according to authorities. Two children were sent to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. They were accompanied by their father in the ambulance. The children are expected to survive, according to Cpl. Jake Smith of the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The ramp from Steve Reynolds Boulevard to I-85 southbound was initially closed, but it has since been reopened.

Police said the driver of the tractor-trailer did not stop at the scene of the accident, but was tracked down in Cobb County. The driver was interviewed by police. Authorities said that the crash is still under investigation and it's not clear what, if any, charges will be filed.
