Tigers fan gets wheelchair from Shelby Township Fire Department

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

On Monday, we told you about Katie Stark. Back in June, she went to a Tigers game at Comerica Park. She is disabled, but had regular tickets, so she was told to park her wheelchair in a certain spot. When she came back to get it, the wheelchair was gone.

"I didn't sit in it because I like to be as normal as possible, and I don't like to sit in my wheelchair for very long. I like to sit in a normal seat with everybody around me and cheer them on just like everybody else," Stark said.

Since our story aired, the response has been incredible. On Tuesday, the Shelby Township Fire Department delivered a new wheelchair.

"I was watching TV last night and saw the story and just literally struck a nerve," said Lieutenant Joel Morris.

Although the actual donation was made by the fire department, there were dozens and dozens of viewers who emailed and called Fox 2 offering their assistance.

"We just want to thank everybody from Fox 2 and all your viewers. We can't even tell you how grateful we are. You guys are awesome," said Theresa Buero, Katie's mother.
