Accused killer of East Point police officer waives court date

Posted: Updated:

The woman charged with murdering East Point Cpl. Crystal Parker waived her first court appearance in Fulton County on Wednesday.

U.S. Marshals and the Fulton County Department arrested Ms. Parker, formerly Danielle Alexander, without incident at 415 Fairburn Road in southwest Atlanta Tuesday.

Earlier that same day, an autopsy on Cpl. Parker confirmed that she had been shot in the head, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office.

Rosemary McClendon, a family friend of Crystal Parker's, foundher dead at her home last Sunday night. Police say she'd likely been deadfor about three days when her body was discovered.

McClendon said she knew the officer for more than a decade and that relationship brought her to the Fulton County Jail to hear about the woman charged with the officer's murder.

While Danielle Parker and Crystal Parker are former roommates, authorities have not commented on this or any other factor as being part of a motive for the shooting.

said she didn't talk much with Danielle Parker, even though the suspect lived in the officer's home for several years.

Police say Danielle Parker moved out of the south Fulton house several months ago.

McClendon said that she wanted to focus on the life her friend lived.

"You already know she was police officer of the year," McClendon said.  "She was always training police officers. They all looked up to her and I'm sure if she wanted to, she could have been promoted to whatever level she wanted to be."

The suspect's family left the county jail without speaking to reporters.

The officer's family said they'll wait for the legal process to run its course and to find out more about why the officer died.

"The police are doing a good job, we have to let them to continue to make their case so we can be victorious in the end," said Joe Parker, Crystal's brother.

The next court date for 30-year-old Danielle Parker was moved to July 24.
