NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A fire ripped through a house in the Bronx early Friday morning killing one woman and critically injuring three people including a child, said fire officials.

It's not clear what sparked the blaze on the second floor at 326 Swinton Avenue in the Thoggs Neck section at about 3:50 a.m.

According to the NY Post, Firefighters pulled the family out of the burning house and immediately started performing CPR trying to revive the four unconscious patients

55-year-old Ketty Lamarche was found by firefighters on the third floor and was taken to Jacobi Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Lamarche's husband, 55-year-old Ramon Velez and the son of former Bronx city councilman Ramon S. Velez -- is in critical but stable condition at Jacobi Hospital.

Two other victims, Lamarche's 75-year-old mother and 5-year-old granddaughter where also taken to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition.

Firefighters evacuated the building. The fire was brought under control at about 4:36 a.m.

Sixty-five firefighters responded to the scene.

Ramon S. Velez, Sr. was an influential figure in helping Puerto Ricans earn their place in New York City politics. He died in 2008 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Believe it or not this, some say New York's outdoor basketball courts are a dying entity. Now there's plenty of room to stand on most days.Basketball programs like one at Chelsea Piers are gaining popularity. That means the place to hoop it up for many appears to be indoors.

Making New York City more energy efficient

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
